The New York Jets started their football career in the year 1960 when they became a member of the American Football League’s Eastern Division. Also known as the Titans, the team’s name was changed to New York Jets after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963. In 1970, the team became a member of the NFL. The Jets had some problem attracting the crowd on their first 2 seasons, even though they fielded respectable teams that finished .500 the team’s future is in doubt after a 5-9 season in 1962.

In 1968, Namath led the Jets to the AFL championship. He predicted a victory over the NFL-champion Baltimore and shocking the opposing team 16-7 over the Colts. Namath took the most valuable player title and Weeb Ewbank became the only coach who won the championship on both leagues. The Jets repeated the AFL Eastern Division champions in the year 1969, and joined the NFL after a year. They made two consecutive appearances in the playoffs in 1981 and 1982, led by Freeman McNeil, Richard Todd, Joe Klecko and Mark Gastineau.

Last season, the New York Jets played rival AFC champion New England Patriots. The Jets took an early lead 10-7, but unable to score another touchdown and the patriots toll the game after two Jets turnover on their offense. The New York Jets’ postseason ended with a 37-16 loss. This season, the Jets will move forward, as the team received many options on the offensive line and veteran Allan Faneca leading the Jets’ offensive line.

Super Bowl XLII is underway and the last season is but a piece of history for the Jets. Mangini, now on his third year as New York Jets’ head coach is looking forward in bagging the championship.
